Principal's Message

Walter McDavid

Dear Parents, On behalf of the staff and myself here at T.L. Weston Middle School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2016-2017 school year! We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. Our motto this year is “Building a Legacy of Excellence One Student at a Time”, We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she: •	Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience •	Completes all homework assignments given by teachers •	Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills •	Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life •	Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject •	Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school and go on to college Please consider joining our school volunteer program as our students can greatly benefit from your involvement and contributions to the school’s program and its operations. We seek volunteers to help us with the following activities: •	Teacher-led instructional support, usually in the classroom •	Reading with children who need extra help •	School-wide events •	Student recognition events •	Outreach and recruitment of parent and community volunteers The wonderful T.L. Weston Middle School staff and I feel privileged to be a part of this school family. We thank you for your support and look forward to meeting you. Sincerely, Walter McDavid, Jr. School Principal

Dear Parents,

Dear Thulla Lewis Weston Middle School Golden Eagle Staff,

As principal of T.L. Weston Middle School, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone back for another great year at the “Ivy League Middle School” on the Southend of historic Greenville, Mississippi. Although we are in the middle of a pandemic, we are all passionate about the safety of our children and each other. During this unprecedented time, we still “must’, “provide an opportunity for all to achieve success!” We are excited about the opportunity to see our children back in our classrooms whether virtually or in person, as we fill them with the enthusiasm to learn.  We will stay true to the goals of 1) Improving student achievement, 2) Providing a safe and secure learning environment, 3) Efficient use of resources, and, 4) clear district and community transparency. Additionally, we will strive to make T.L. Weston the model for other middle schools in our great state by employing unique and groundbreaking ways to stoke the fire of education for our students. Through deliberately planned lessons that provoke deep thought and the application of this attained knowledge in various virtual assessment forms, our students will be prepared for the demand of the global and everchanging society in which we live!  Be prepared to use the best practices of researched based strategies that we will then customize to meet our children on the level we receive them with the specific intention of growth! I believe that every child should leave the corridors of T.L. Weston prepared to be ambassadors of “articulation” during their high school experience!

Our Weston administrative team hopes that this year will be not only pleasant, but serve as a second wind of energy to professional self-development as we embark on a never attempted journey of education in the Mississippi Delta and the world. We will communicate our efforts to all stakeholders more so than we ever have, in the clear task of staying transparent. Remember we are the “experts in the room” whether virtual or literal. We will operate with professional expertise and attention to detail in our everyday interactions with students, their parents and the community in large.

I am honored to serve as the “lead learner”, “instructional leader” and carry the title “Eagle One” at Thulla Lewis Middle School! It is a privilege to be a part of a team that has defied the odds time and again. We have each sacrificed to move Weston to its current rating of a “C” school and are willing to put in the hard work to accomplish more! I stand at the ready to continue striving to build positive relationships with our staff, students, parents, and community as our school rapidly soars upward! Remember, W.E. (Weston Eagles) soar alone, not flock! We are destined and determined to stand out amongst our peers!
