Greenville Public School District has made up the two required make-days due to inclement weather. Therefore, Saturday, April 14, 2018 make-up day has been canceled. Students do not need to report to school on Saturday.

One of our goals at Greenville Public School District is to make sure our students are in a safe learning environment. We are prepared to respond and to protect students and staff members at GPSD. We want to continue to make our schools a safe and nurturing place for our students. One of the ways we ensure safety at GPSD is with our School Safety Alliance. 

GPSD Teacher Career Fair Teacher Career Fair

Greenville Public School District hosted their annual Teacher Career Fair on Saturday, March 24, 2018. This event allowed educators to meet principals and administrators to discuss job openings within the district. Guest who attended the event also had the opportunity to meet with local banks and realtors within the city of Greenville. The support from the city was greatly appreciated. Greenville Public Schools was honored to have Dr. Temika M. Simmons, wife of Mayor Errick D. Simmons, welcome guest to Greenville with words of encouragement. The district was also fortunate to have a representative from the Mississippi Department of Education licensure department. MDE held sessions for prospective educators on how to obtain and maintain standard certification and licensure. 

Greenville Public Schools was pleased to have 72 visits to the district and school information booths. They were also excited to receive six contingency contracts that were signed during the career fair. These six applicants represent multiple subject areas and span from elementary through secondary grade levels.

GPSD and The City of Greenville will hold a Community Forum on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. at Manning. The purpose of this event is to share with the community the district’s goals, present achievements, and future plans within the school district.

Greenville Public School District Launches Needs Assessment Survey QR Code

Greenville Public School District will launch its 2018 Comprehensive Needs Assessment survey on January 17, 2018. This survey is designed to seek opinions and ideas from parents and community members, as well as from faculty, staff, and students. The questions assess the status of the district in areas such as family and community outreach, curriculum and instruction, and school facilities and organization. The survey is brief and will only take a few minutes to complete. It will be available until March 30, 2018.

Greenville Public School District would appreciate your help on this important assessment of the district. The survey is available online on the district website at http://www.gvillepublicschooldistrict.com/, in paper format at the district central office, or by scanning this QR code.

Growing Great Staff and Faculty Professional Development Day

Great staff and faculty help create great students! Here at GPSD, it is critical to pay close attention to how we train and support both new and experienced staff and faculty. On January 8th Greenville Public School District had its third professional development day of the school year. Professional development keeps our staff up-to-date on new research on how children learn, evolving technology tools for the classroom, new curriculum resources, and more.

DUI Enforcement Event at the Technical Center  DUI Enforcement

Chief Reed and his team put together a DUI Enforcement event for the students at the Technical Center. They spoke to different classes about drunk driving. The students had a chance to wear drunk goggles and drive a golf cart in the parking lot. This event showed teenagers the potentially dangerous consequences of drinking alcohol while driving. This powerful program challenged students to think about drinking while driving, personal safety, and the responsibility of making mature decisions when lives are involved.

G.R.E.A.T. Program G.R.E.A.T.

Greenville Public School District is participating in the G.R.E.A.T. Program this school year. The G.R.E.A.T. Program is a national and international gang and violence prevention program that builds trust between law enforcement and communities. G.R.E.A.T. provides a school-based, police officer instructed program that includes classroom instruction and various learning activities.

Greenville High School students had the opportunity to hear speakers from Mississippi Valley State University faculty and students. The meeting allowed students to ask any questions they had for the present students at Valley State. They also received information on the programs and opportunities available at Mississippi Valley State University.

Our district attended the MSBA Fall Conference where they received valuable information. Our district also received an award recognizing Board Members exceeding training hours. Our board collectively earned 147 hours. In addition, Mrs. Vaughn was sworn in as the Secretary for the MSBA.

Greenville Public School District will be having our first Parent Academy: Community Edition on Monday, November 6, 2017 at 6:00 pm. The location of the event will be at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. The topic of the night will be Family Guide Night.  We will share the MDE family guides to assist with grade level at home strategies and activities that support both student & parent understanding of the English Language Arts & Math standards at each grade level from Pre-K - 8th grade.

School Board Meeting T.L. Weston Middle School

Guest who attended the school board meeting experienced a night of accomplishments from the district students. The superintendent acknowledged top performing middle school students on the MAP test. At McBride Pre-K fathers and children filled the library where they enjoyed fresh doughnuts, coffee, and juice before classes began.

Kick-Off Canned Food Drive Kick-Off Canned Food Drive

Greenville Public School District has partnered up with Salvation Army to make an official the announcement about the canned food drive. The dates for the canned food drive are October 17- November 17 and November 27-December 13. We are asking that staff members and students within GPSD to donate at least one canned good.Last year GPSD donated over 23,000 canned goods and those donations helped feed over 700 families.Within the school district, we are having a friendly competition and the school who collects the most canned goods will be awarded a prize.There will be a designated area at each school where students and staff can drop off their donation. This canned food drive gives are our children the opportunity to participate in volunteer service and it teaches our children the importance of giving back to the community at an early age.

Unity Day is the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month. It has been recognized in the United States since 2011. Greenville High School students partook in the Unity Day "Together Against Bullying" program. Chief Reed was the guest speaker of this program. The program consisted of conversation on bullying. 

2017 GHS Homecoming 2017 GHS Homecoming

Homecoming Week is the biggest spirit event of the year, with a full week of events, rallies, and the Homecoming Game. We had a great celebratory Homecoming week with students, family, and community members! We want to thank all of those involved in the planning for a job well done! We were happy to see the large number of alumnus tailgating and attending the game. We are looking forward to seeing all of you next year!

GHS teachers promoted reading across the curriculum, to motivate students to participate in the reading fair while preparing grade level reading fair boards that reflect a variety of genres and subjects and to gain an interest in reading.

Students and parents had a great time at Weddington Family Reading Night. Family Reading Night helps promotes the love of books and reading to children. The night was filled with interactive sessions and parents learned tools to build their children's literacy skills.

To the Memory of Quentin Groves To the Memory of Quentin Groves

Friday night was not only a celebratory night but a night of remembrance of Quentin Groves. In honor of Quentin Groves, Greenville Public School District retired his jersey number. Quentin Groves (July 5, 1984 – October 15, 2016) was an American football linebacker and a Greenville Weston High alumnus. At Greenville Weston High School, Groves started for four years playing tight end as well as defensive end. He was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft and played college football at Auburn. He also played for the Oakland Raiders, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans and the Buffalo Bills. Greenville Public School District honors the achievements of Quentin Groves. 

GTC Fall Adult Ed and Kid's TechXploration Camp TechXploration

Here at the Greenville Technical Center, we are committed to providing an opportunity for all students to be successful. However, we do not just stop at students. It is our goal to also provide opportunities for the people of our community to become and improve upon successful. To complete this task, the Greenville Technical Center offers adult education night classes and some of them are for FREE!!!

These classes provide individuals will updated skills in various areas of industry. This fall the GTC is providing the following classes: Job Skills #1 (intro to computer basics, resume builder and the career readiness exam training), Beginning Computers (intro to MS Word and PowerPoint), Collision Repair (Intro to Painting and Refinishing), Introduction to Welding Techniques, and the Serv Safe Certification

Also this year we will are offering a two-week evening kids’ camp, in the areas of robotics, agriculture, and creativity. 

Registration for these classes is September 28, 2017, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Please bring a state-issued ID for registration. Participants who complete 80% or more of the scheduled class meetings will receive a certification of completion at the end of each course. I am asking that you post this flier up to provide your members/employees an opportunity to participate.

Mississippi Action for Community Education (MACE) hosted the 15th Annual Delta Dialogue. Greenville High School students got the opportunity to partake the Delta Dialogue. The Annual Delta Dialogue brought together public officials, civic leaders, businesses, and other sectors to discuss current policy issues that affect residents of the Delta.

ActiveParent is a web-based application is for parents to keep track of students grades. GPSD parents with more than one student can access grades for all of them with one account. The goal of ActiveParent is to provide parents and guardians the ability to say their ABCs check students' Attendance, Behavior and Course Performance. ActiveParent provides student information as soon as it is entered into SAM (Studnet Administration Manager).

Greenville Public School District hosted their first district-wide event of the school year. The purpose of the Title 1 Annual Parent Meeting, was to inform parents about the school’s Title 1 program and their right to be included in their child’s education. This annual meeting was also a way of setting the tone and opening the door for positive school-home relationships. Each school’s leaders were available to answer any questions for parents.

Fees for the lots can be paid starting on Tuesday, September 5th at Greenville High School.

Any fees for a lot paid at Parks and Recreation will be honored; however future payments must be made at Greenville High School.

Bicentenntial Event for Greenville

There will be a portion of the screening dedicated to Lizzie Coleman High School. This event is free and open to the public, and the mayor has expressed he also would like for the Coleman Cheerleaders or Spirit Squad to be in attendance. Again, the event will be Friday, August 18, 2017 at E.E. Bass Cultural Arts (across from the White House) with the Community Screening starting at 7 p.m
